New season Welsh lamb from the Black Mountains

Cooked leg of lamb

The first of our new-season Farm-Assured lamb comes from Davey Rees, at Gwern-y-bwtler Farm just above Crickhowell. His ewes lamb early, in December, so the lambs start their lives under cover before moving on to lush green pastures. They grow quickly, and it means they’re ready for us at the start of spring: sweet, tender and perfect for Easter.

For the rest of the year, our lamb comes mostly* from the Wright family at Ty Llys Farm, Tretower, three miles down the road. They’ve been supplying us since the late 1980s, and we always look forward to May and the first of their succulent new-season grass-fed lamb.

* From time to time, depending on supply, we may need to source extra lamb from the local Talgarth market. Rest assured it’s always Welsh!
